Four tier painted candle pyramid with wooden fan can hang from the ceiling or stand on a table. Hot air rising from the candles sets the fan blades in motion, turning all tiers of the candelabrum. The position of the fan blades and the number of candles determine the speed of movement. As the pyramid turns, candles cast light and shadow across the changing views.
Forest and farm animals, people, and evergreen trees are hand-crafted and painted by skilled woodworkers using German fir and specialized techniques. The art of Reifendrehen—ring-turning—is a generations-old wood-turning tradition of Erzgebirge folk artists in southeastern Germany. This specialized skill has few practitioners today. In Christian Werner’s workshop, a master craftsman turns precise grooves out of a ring of moist fir wood as was done two hundred years ago. Next, the raw shapes of figures are manually cut off the ring in slices using a hammer and knife. Individual figures are then hand-carved and hand-painted. Ring-turning is an efficient way to use wood, but production is limited.
Animals, figures, and trees are included with the pyramid as pictured in the photo. Comes with 100 candles.
